Uchouten Kazoku or
The Eccentric Family is one of my favorite animated shows this season, along with
Gatchaman Crowds,
Servant x Service, and
Silver Spoon. Eccentric Family gives us a more ambiguous approach as it attempts to tackle various themes along the lines of
identity. And I think it does so in a more constructive way than say, its season rival
Gatchaman Crowds. Although, my weekly favorite bounces a lot between the two. Last week, my favorite, that's right you guessed it!, was Eccentric Family. And I just needed something to commemorate last week's episode, so lets talk about its ending! - which interestingly helped me understand the nature of the series a lot more, after writing this post.
"Que Sera, Sera", or
Whatever Will Be, Will Be, is actually a play on words derived from the Spanish language, Italian, and even a little French. It was those exact play on words that
launched the popularity of a song in the 1950's; which carried the message about
accepting our ignorance of what lies ahead. That,
we will remain oblivious to our future selves. So, considering that I don't speak Japanese, I'm gonna have to go with this former interpretation. And I find it interesting, because, a major chunk of the series revolves around a bit of mystery, of not knowing what will happen next . . . of accepting your current circumstances and moving on. That sort of thing. Especially when it relates to Benten, our mysterious raccoon-eating anti-villain. Who will she eat next? But despite her seemingly vicious nature, all the characters in the anime are pretty outlandish to some degree. Nevertheless, they are very well thought out characters, and it looks like there is still room for more development. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.
In terms of animation, the ending is quite simple in that department. But I really like the simplicity of it, and the designs that mainly focus on Benten. Especially the constant frames of circles which, coincidentally, happen to be Benten's favorite shape(those little details). Tie that together with a nice song, and you've got yourself a delightful looking ending. But when it comes to music, I think I favor Gatchaman's soundtrack over this one. Next week? Maybe.
